Ama sa,
My colonial name is Lynzee Rae. My Gitxsanimax name is T'ipyukw which means "To Decend." I was born and raised in Kispiox, BC. I'm a member of the Gitxsan and Haisla nations. I was borninto the Lax Gibuu (wolf) clan and my Wilp is xGwoimtxw which means "Springtime." I am currently living on my home territory and raising my three boys while attending VIU to obtain my Masters in Inclusive Education. I chose to return home to raise my family. I love the richness of our culture and the vast diversity in the arts here. I wanted my children to grow up with their extended family close by and to feel pride in their heredity.
Education and teaching are dear to my heart. I plan to work with our youth, help them to reach their potential, achieve their dreams, and become venues for change. That is my dream. I believe it is in our way to naturally teach others and share our sacred knowledge, our Gwalx Ye'insxw. I take my role as knowledge keeper very seriously. I understand that our ways and our knowledge have been passed down generation to generation since time immemorial. I feel the weight and responsibility to ensure our next generation knows of our ways and the importance of learning all that they can.
I am so fortunate to reside in an area that shares knowledge so freely. I had always thought that Beading was sacred, this special knowledge passed down within families for generations.
Follow me as I work on expanding my teacher toolbox and broadening my horizons one assignment at a time.
